Forming a triangular shape bordered by Greenwich South Street, Greenwich High Road and Blackheath Road, this area is largely made up of attractive original 19th century terraced streets
One of the best-preserved parts of West Greenwich, the area is named after John Ashburnham who inherited land here as part of his inheritance in 1755. The family laid out streets and housing to the north-west of South Street and the rest of the estate was sold off from development in the 1880s. It is the last conservation area to be designated in Greenwich.
The area borders and in fact incorporates some of Greenwich Park so residents are never more than a few minutes’ walk from 183-acres of open space. It also has a smaller park known as The Point which offers a panorama of the City’s skyscrapers.
All the wider facilities and services of Greenwich itself are easily accessible and the 02 on Greenwich Peninsular not only hosts sports events and concerts but also has a multiplex cinema, bowling alley bars and restaurants.
Trains from Greenwich DLR take 15 mins to Canary Wharf or 23 mins to Bank. London Bridge is 8 minutes from Greenwich station.
There is a memorial stone in The Point to mark the site where an RAF pilot, Flight Lieutenant Richard Carew Reynall, was shot down over Blackheath on the first day of the Blitz.
